Gangaa Dashhara (गंगा दशहरा)

Gangaa Dashahara (गंगा दशहरा) is the day when river Gangaa came to earth from the heaven (Naaradeeya Puran, part 4). There was a tenfold combination of events at that time namely the month of Jyesth (ज्येष्ठ) or May/June, waxing moon phase (शुक्ल पक्ष), Hast nakshatra (नक्षत्र) or lunar mansion, Budhwar (बुधवार) or Wednesday, tenth day of the lunar phase (दशमी), gar karan (गर करण), aanand yog (आनंद योग), vayatipaat (व्यत्तिपात), the Moon in the zodiac of Virgo and the Sun in the zodiac of Taurus. This combination is considered greatly auspicious and believed to destroy ten sins. The day is therefore referred to as Dashahara.
